Sponge THIS (Trieste Harbour Innovation Science)
Our project’s main vision, following the spirit of the circular economy, is to move from sustainability awareness to action. Our aim is to use waste to produce something that can be useful to further reduce pollution. We would like to create an interactive, open and eco-friendly environment, in order to raise awareness on this topic and offer a valid solution to the problem. Focusing on the area of textile products, our initial proposal is to use the collected plastic to manufacture a sponge that could absorb oil from the sea. For the development of our business, we have identified the old harbour of Trieste as the perfect location thanks to its strategic position, its proximity to the sea and the presence of old abandoned structures that could be fully reutilised. Moreover, during July 2020 in Trieste will take place an important event, ESOF 2020, focused on the theme of science and research.
