"Nowadays Palazzo del Lavoro in Turin is considered one of Pier Luigi Nervi’s best works; at the time it was erected (1960), it represented a pride for Italy and an icon for the city of Turin, symbol of the Italian industrial development, which in those years was very fast. In the last decades, two important events happened in Turin: the Olympics Game in 2006 and the celebration of 150th years of Italian Unification. Unfortunately, on neither occasion was a redevelopment project for the Palazzo del Lavoro thought, which would have been a good solution to host both or parts of the events. In August 2015 the building was the protagonist of a major fire, mainly due to its state of deterioration and misuse over the last few decades. After years of indecision about the future of the building, in August 2020 there was the acquisition of ownership of the building by the State through the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. This operation gives hope for an acceleration of the recovery process of the structure for its complete conversion into a commercial and recreational area."
